Natural copper was discovered near Hijiri-jinja Shrine, leading to the creation of Japan’s first currency, called “Wadokaichin”. It currently acts as a shrine with connections to Wadokaichin, so it is well-known as a “power spot” for good fortune with money, and popular as a home to deities of moneymaking and thriving business. It’s about a 5-minutes walk from Chichibu Railway Wado-Kuroya Station to Hijiri-jinja Shrine.

About a 15-minute walk from the shrine, you can see the remnants of the surface mining site where copper was actually mined, where a 5-meter tall Wadokaichin monument also now stands.
